Why Cranfield ? Cranfield has advantages over many airports (for training purposes): The local training area is in the immediate vicinity of the airport; flight schools at airfields in the London area have (at least) a 15 minute transit to their training areas (due to the proximity of the London terminal area): you pay for this added delay. Cranfield has a professional, full time air traffic service - this helps you quickly become familiar with communication procedures in busy airspace, enabling you to confidently handle trips that will take you through controlled airspace. Cranfield is almost exclusively used for training flights: no excessive holding procedures are experienced and no long queues for take-off. The airport is open 11 hours on weekdays and 9 hours on weekends (all year round), allowing you to maximise your time for training. Full lighting and instrument approach procedures are available, allowing us to offer night and instrument training with no need for costly positioning to other airports. This also allows us to be more flexible in regard to initial flight training as we can operate when other [training] airfields are closed due to the weather. Customs & flight planning: We frequently undertake trips abroad - usually students take part in these too, and we can do these directly to and from Cranfield. Also, once you've finished your training you can fly to airfields on the continent directly from the airport you're most familiar with.
